Shannon Fuller - Kennel Maintenance
I started woking at Guildcrest in October 2010 when a position for kennel assistant was posted at my old job and my boss told me to take the position immediately. He knew that it would be a great job for me not to mention a fantastic opportunity.
I have always loved animals (my very first word was dog!) and ever since I can remember I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. Even though I don't know what life has in store for me, I know I am happiest when working with animals.
When I'm not at the clinic I can be found at home trying to spend my new free-time. Going from two jobs to one is quite the change! I'm not complaining as I've gotten more time to spend with my sister and boyfriend. My two dogs are also excited about the change in pace as they go out for even MORE walks.
At the moment I have five animals; all of which came into my life because they needed someone to love them and give them a good home.
Storm had been born to someone who hadn't spayed their dog, found her pregnant and was now trying to sell the puppies for cheap to a good home. I had always wanted a Cane Corso Mastiff so I drove down with my boyfriend to have a look at the pups. From the first time I laid eyes on her it was love at first sight and since bringing her home Chayse and her have been best buds.
Chayse was 8 months old when I adopted her and came from the Humane Society. She was in really bad condition; so bad that I was sure no one would adopt her. Knowing that she needed the most love I took her home and to a clinic as soon as possible and got her all patched up. Unfortunately, her health wasn't the only problem she had, she was unsocialized and tried to attack any person or animal who came near her. After two years of training and socializing Chayse has finally become the friendly, loving dog that I knew she would be.
As for the cats who call my house home, I rescued the Fluff (I'm sure you can figure out why we called her that) from the streets near a friend's house. I was walking by and she was sitting in a puddle - her paws bleeding from the amount of flea bites. I picked her up and took her to the vet immediately to get flea medication and her initial check up and kitten vaccines as she was only about 7 weeks old. Ever since coming home she's made herself queen of the house and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Next up is M.I.A. who I adopted when a friend's cat had kittens. I called her Mia because she says her name when she meows and spell it M.I.A. because she's always in the strangest of places and extremely difficult to find. I adopted her to keep Fluff company but Fluff wasn't as interested as Storm, and the two can always be fond sleeping together.
Finally there's the Pooof (she was fluffier than the Fluff) and I found her in the underground parking where she had hidden herself after being thrown off a balcony. Thankfully she wasn't injured and after checking that she didn't have a microchip or beling to anyone I took her home where she's become the quiet girl of the house.
