Nutritional Counselling
Much like our own bodies, cats have specific dietary needs. They also have various nutritional requirements depending on their age and health status. Geriatric cats have significantly different requirements than young growing kittens. Also, cats with diabetes, urinary or kidney disease also have different requirements.
There are many different types of food available for you to choose and your cat is depending on you to make the right choice for him or her. Often times owners feed their cat's food that is the equivalent to our "junk food" and although it tastes great, it's not healthy for our feline friends to be eating all the time.
Of course, these types of food tend to be the cheapest and seemingly more cost effective; HOWEVER these diets can cause serious harm to your cat and cost you much more money in veterinary bills when they are ill.
If you are looking to change your cat's diet it is always best to consult your veterinarian. The Guildcrest Cat Hospital is always happy to help you put your cat on the right path to eating his or her way to a long healthy life.
Weight Management Program
A common misconception about cats is that there is a universal weight that they need to achieve. Every cat is built differently and will therefore have a different ideal weight. For example, the Main Coon breed of cat is significantly larger than the Burmese and therefore the ideal weight for each of them would be significantly different.
Maintaining an ideal weight for your feline is very important to us as overweight cats are largely at risk for diabetes, arthritis and joint disease as well as heart disease. In order to prevent any of our patients from suffering, we do our best to help establish their ideal weight early on and even determine how much your cat should be eating per day.
We even offer monthly weight checks to ensure that your cat is going in the right direction.
