Dr. Karen MacMillan

I decided to become a veterinarian at the young age of five when a traumatic experience helped me see how important it was to help animals. My cat Frisky was in a fight with a rabid fox and shortly after the fight, my mother noticed that Frisky was exhibiting signs of having rabies. Since rabies is deadly to humans, the Humane Society took Frisky away, and since that day I have devoted my life to helping animals and ensuring their health.
I took classes at the Ontario Veterinarian College and have been a practicing veterinarian for seven years. Before coming to Guildcrest Cat Hospital, I worked at MOVEH (Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital). After many overnight shifts and learning so much about cats I decided to look for a feline only practice. It also helped that my best friend Dr. Van Boxel was leaving the clinic and highly recommended working here.
When I'm not at the clinic I enjoy skiing and traveling and love to spend time with my husband and female persian Chanel. I adopted Chanel as an adult from the Oakville Humane Society - it was love at first site. In 2010 I said goodbye to Rufus, an orange persian who I had gotten from a breeder when he was only 8 weeks old. It was hard to say goodbye, but the memories I still have of him keep him close.
This is an image taken of them playing in a garden. Chanel is on the left, Rufus on the right.
